I have been practicing yoga for quite a while, but I have never tried fasting. I have heard many yoga teachers recommend fasting as part of your yoga practice. How much does fasting benefit you?

Fasting is a spiritual discipline.
It doesn’t need to be utilized in the setting of yoga to be beneficial.
Spend part of the time that you are fasting communing with GOD, or whatever you recognize as your own god.
And drink lots of water while you are fasting. Take a multivit.
I fast occasionally. Not as a spiritual thing. I find it helps a great deal in cleaning out and purifying my system. Also not so bad for my diet.
I should mention, I never fast more than two days. I think longer than that ceases to be beneficial or healthy.
That’s good advice from Rednail.
Keep it less than 48 hours and don’t have that supreme pizza with extra anchovies and jalapenos when you resumed eating. Make is something light.
Fasting is not good for everyone & it is important to consult a doctor always. It may be side effects such as headaches, weakness, muscle aches, nausea, light , irritation, exacerbation of joint symptoms and hunger. But also their are lots of benefits of fasting. Such as fasting will rest the digestive system, allow for cleansing and detoxification of the body, create a break in eating patterns while shining a spotlight on them, promote greater mental clarity, cleanse and heal “stuck” emotional patterns, lead to a feeling of physical lightness, increasing energy level, promote an inner stillness enhancing spiritual connection.
I generally make the first thing I eat after a fast some kind of fruit. Watermelon or strawberries are favorites. Salads are also good. I generally wait 24 hours before eating meat, which is actually quite hard for me as I am a definite carnivore. I have no medical reasons for that. It just seems like a good idea to me.
