I’ve taken a fruity drink with melatonin about an hour ago, but I cannot sleep anyway. Why is it so? How long does it usually take for you?

The first question is whether you have already been taking melatonin for some time. If yes, the bad news is that it stops working if you take it for a few days in a row. This supplement is not harmless and it is not meant for curing general insomnia. Synthetic melatonin may work if you need to reset your biological clock, caused by a jet lag, for example. Or, if you have to sleep at daytime due to unusual working schedule. Despite its popularity, melatonin is not a universal cure and it should not be taken on a regular basis.
I usually take melatonin about half an hour before going to bed and have no problems with falling asleep. So, probably for me it works in about 30 minutes.
You can you buy melatonin pills in a EasyMedShop store. But keep in mind, Melatonin is not a true sedative or tranquilizer. It only signals the brain that it is time for sleep, or that is the theory.
I say that just because some people expect it to knock them out, when it simply will not do that, like ‘dedicated’ sleep medicines will.
The Harvard medical school conducted a study in which they proved that taking melatonin is effective only if your body is not producing its own melatonin at the moment. In other words, if you take it before daytime sleep, it is effective. However, there’s no use taking it at night, when it’s dark and your own body melatonin would work better. If you still have a hard time falling asleep, it’s possible that you need to do something about your sleep hygiene.
I’ve been taking melatonin every other night some five years ago. I don’t remember for sure, but if I’m not mistaken, I took it about half an hour before I went to bed. Additionally, I did meditations and took a hot shower before bedtime to relax.
