Health insurance is not mandatory but it is good to have a policy for you and your family members. An accident requiring hospitalization or a disease is not the only threat to your health but also to your savings. So, with the help of health insurance you can meet such crisis with ease.
My opinion is that a person should have health insurance for his/her future benefits. But it depends person to person if he/she is saving the money or has done some investment.
Its not mandatory but its always good to have health insurance because it cover you and your family with all the future damages. I just policy for my mother from max life insurance and i must say that they are providing the best insurance policies.
